1.community courtyard in Melekhatun
typical open space in community.
2.playground in Gulensu settlement
i am quite glad to see even such gecokondu area have its own football playgound . But normally it is protected by fence and locked. Before the land be occupied by housing they should use it more efficiently

3.park near second bosphorus bridge(west end)

4. public space in gate community
5. a park cafe beside Maltepel Merkez Cumhuruyet Camii
a peaceful outdoor restaurant just beside the busy motoway
5. a park beside Sureyya Plaji station

6. LALE BAHCESI sunken cafe
sunken courtyard of mosque occupied by a nargile cafe

city study__look at city scale sites

These are several spaces i found in the city which either contain urprogrammed activities and functions we can learn from or have potentials to be redefine by future design strategies.
From those places i found different kinds of social life in the city which may represent some kind of "istanbul" characters. Not like grand mosques or beautiful city history, those city characters and social relations come from normal daily life, and haven't been protected by any policy. It is hard to say some of them may disappear in the future by means of gentrification and urban modernisation.

1.Topkapi-Yedikule _Bostans site, traditional urban farming beside old city wall
this female's vegetables will be packaged and send to centre city after harvest.

2.sultan Ahmet Park__between ayasofya mosque and blue mosque
many people enjoy sunshine here,it is said a hot place for night picnic in summer time

3.Taksim square
taksim square's grass land fence were demolished when we was there this time. The fence used to act as a "bench" for people to sit on and stay. Now the square become more isolated and only a place for photo.

4.galata tower square
we met some music band are active here at night. There are lots of street performer in istanbul. Istanbul is a city of entertainment in some terms.

5.galata bridge and eminonu
galata bridge is famous for its fishers and seafood restaurants downstairs, while eminonu square were crowded of flows attracted by mobile vendors.

6.Uzuncarsi street near Grand Bazaar
a commercial street which is occupied by all kinds of informal retail activities and displays.

7. front park of sirkeci station
the small park is always crowd. i found a lot of men gathered here every day, someone was selling leather belts, and others just wandering nearby. the park has become a kind of public domain.

8. balat coast line
wide green belt along the south bank of golden horn.it is hot for picnic in warmer season. i went there in rainy day.there were still lots of fishers gathering there. And i had a cup of turkish tea in a mini cafe on a well-decorated boat which is by no means a heterotopia space in the city.

9.sogutlucesme station bridge
sogutlucesme is a place in asian part where suburb train station, metro bus station and large area of parking place gathered. It is a transportation intersection point. lots of people walking under the station bridge to cross the area. i found the narrow tunnel under moto way were occupied by some retailers, while the giant space under the bridge is abandoned.

11. under the second bosphorus bridge
even the narrow gap between 2 housing blocks and under the second bosphorus bridge was occupied by some informal residential and garden.

Doris Salcedo: Istanbul

learning about Choreography from wiki

Choreography is the art of designing sequences of movements in which motion, form, or both are specified. Choreography may also refer to the design itself, which is sometimes expressed by means of dance notation. The word choreography literally means "dance-writing" from the Greek words "χορεία" (circular dance, see choreia) and "γραφή" (writing). A choreographer is one who creates choreographies.

The term choreography first appeared in the American English dictionary in the 1950s.[1] Prior to this, movie credits used various terms to mean choreography, such as "ensembles staged by"[2] and "dances staged by"[3].

Choreography is used in the fields of Cheerleading, Cinematography, Dance, Gymnastics, Fashion shows, Ice skating, Marching band, Show Choir, andSynchronized swimming.

In dance, choreography is also known as dance composition. Dance compositions are created by applying one or both of these fundamental choreographic techniques:

  • Improvisation, in which a choreographer provides dancers with a score (i.e., generalized directives) that serves as guidelines for improvised movement and form. For example, a score might direct one dancer to withdraw from another dancer, who in turn is directed to avoid the withdrawal, or it might specify a sequence of movements that are to be executed in an improvised manner over the course of a musical phrase, as in contra dance choreography. Improvisational scores typically offer wide latitude for personal interpretation by the dancer.
  • Planned choreography, in which a choreographer dictates motion and form in detail, leaving little or no opportunity for the dancer to exercise personal interpretation.

Pieces of Istanbul_ space and life

this short video shows some spices in Istanbul trip which i am interested in. Istanbul is such a place we can see all kinds of things pile up-- food , fruit, clothes for sale, people, and houses.. like breeding and scattering in the space. In a city of migrants, the footprint of life occupied land and spaces. lots of unprogrammed activities changed the identity of spaces, making chaos in this old city and comprising the important characters of social life and network among people.

children's playground is another way to occupy the public space by designers, appearing everywhere, from small courtyard of community to wide empty suburb land, where nobody seems will use these facilities. Playground becomes a symbol of "vibrant and healthy life" , sets up with endless loneliness.

moreover,sound,smell,shadow,smoke..these short time phenomenons are recording the life here.Feeling them gave a more real existence.
